Colima, Colima, Mexico

We have traveled a total of 5000km. Just to give you a run down, Barrie to Pittsburgh was 6 hours and 600 km, Pittsburgh to Baton Rouge was 2000km and 17 hours, Baton Rouge to Laredo was 1000km and 10 hours, Laredo to Colima was 1400km and 18 hours, Monterrey and Guadalajara were impossible to get through, but we did it. So in total, 5000km, and 51 hours of driving.
We have gone through several major cities, and noticed many different kinds of roads and dead animals. The most amazing thing is how far away you feel when you drive. Passing through the states was much like passing through Europe, although i have not done that I am basing my knowledge on the experience of others. It seems that each state had its own culture and adapting to it was difficult. We weren't in one place for a long time but we did meet and speak to many different people. Pittsburgh was filled with scholars and people who feel the world is an academic playing field. Baton Rouge was laid back slow southern country style. Texas was huge and let everyone know it. I saw more American flags on the drive through Texas than I have my whole life. In a 1 minute drive I saw 12 flags. That was one thing consistant about the USA, patriots.
Mexico has been fun, don't drive at night, it is INSANE. We did it cause we didn't want to pay for a hotel, but we did take the toll roads, much better. We took the free road for the first 100 km and learned our lesson and stuck to the toll road.
We stayed in our budget and then some so we did well conserving and planning. Driving through the night to certain places was key to saing money. We stayed in one hotel just before the Mexican boarder. Just a little information, getting into the states is like getting into the hottest night club around, but its not that good and Mexico was like trying to get into a convenience store.
I am having a good time, I am excited to surf, its hard to wait knowing the ocean is so close.

My bags are pack and ready to go......

.......but I am not going to an airport. Tomorrow, being Thursday October 11th, the day after the election, my friend Emiel and I are leaving Canada and entering the USA. We are traveling to Mexico via my VW Jetta. It is packed up and the only thing that waits is the custom guy at the border. I am sure he is as excited as we are to see him, or her. I hope to post once a week, pics and stories. I will do my best. Enjoy.

On a trip to Mexico

This is my last week in Canada for the year. I leave for four months to the country of Mexico. My good friend Emiel and I will be traveling across the USA down to the west coast of Mexico. It is a trip that will consist of Surfing and Spanish. Should be fun and nonetheless an adventure. I will post when I can and write much about the experience.
